Handmade Valentine’s Day Banner

In our home, we take the opportunity to celebrate Valentine’s Day as a day where we remember the “great love which with He loved us” (Ephesians 2:4) and the greatest love this world has to offer in the Lord. We call Valentine’s Day “I Love You Day” and take the day to celebrate the gift of one another and our greatest love found in the Lord. We study the origin story of Valentine’s Day and the perfect design the Lord has created for us for marriage and loving one another. It’s also just a fun excuse to add some joy and excitement into the long winter days. So join us, as this is a very simple project to make with your kiddos during an afternoon.

My children are ages 5, 3, and 1.5 and I love opportunities to do activities that work on their dexterity. This can be as simple or as elaborate as you wish. I prepared the papers with traced hearts on them before we began which made the process so much easier. My five year old was able to cut out the hearts on her own and my three year old was able to with some assistance. Even our little toddler joined in decorating them with crayons and stickers after we cut them out.

Below please find the instructions and supplies required for this craft. There is also a short video showing you our process and final product. Please note that any purchases made from the links we do receive a small commission. This allows us to continue offering these free resources to you. Thank you for your support. Happy crafting!

Valentine's Day Cards Handmade with your Family

SUPPLIES:

Construction Paper

Children’s Scissors

Foam Stickers

• Crayons/Colored Pencils/Markers

Painter’s Tape (for hanging)
(I love using painter’s tape for crafts as it removes quickly and easily without pulling on paint.)

Twine

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Fold small pieces of construction paper in half and trace one side of the heart onto it with a marker.

  2. Have your kiddos cut out all of the hearts.

  3. Decorate the hearts with crayons and stickers.

  4. Lay out a piece of twine onto the counter. Flipping the hearts over face down onto the counter, slide them underneath the twine and tape the top of the heart to the twine.
** Do not tape the twine in the middle or bottom of the hearts, as they will flip over when hanging.

  5. Once all of the hearts are taped onto the twine, hang the banner onto a mantle, hutch, or window.
