Valentine’s Day DIY Sweatshirt
We’re a big fan of homemade gifts over here and we love an opportunity to do a craft! This is such a fun activity to gift to grandparents and turns any comfy sweater into a cherished memory. My eldest (5) and I did this together while my younger two were sleeping, and it was the perfect age-appropriate activity for her to do (mostly!) on her own. We had so much fun painting together and making this sweet gift for her grandma. I love any one-on-one time I get with my kiddos and making something together is such a special way of spending our time. This was such a fun project that’s so versatile for the holidays or any other time during the year. Handmade gifts are the best, especially when they’re made by little hands. Below you’ll find the required supplies and directions. Please know that we do receive a small compensation at no cost to you for any purchases you make with our links. This helps support our activities and providing them to you. Have so much fun crafting!
SUPPLIES
• Sponges
• Fabric Paint
• Scissors
• Paper Plate
• Paintbrushes (for touchups)
• Sweatshirt
• Cardboard/Cookie tray
(to put in between the sweatshirt top and bottom to ensure no paint bleeds through)
INSTRUCTIONS
Trace a heart (or any other shape you’d like) onto the sponge. Cut the sponges into the desired shape.
Pour out some of the fabric paint onto a paper plate.
Dip the sponges into the paint and put onto the sweatshirt. Replace the paint and continue until the sweatshirt is covered to your liking.
Let the sweatshirt begin to dry for about 10 minutes.
Take the fabric paint bottle and write cute sayings in each of the hearts (“I love you,” “Be mine” “Sweetheart,” etc).
Let dry overnight.
** Be sure to dry in dryer inside out to ensure no issues occur with the paint.
