America Map Printable

If your kids are anything like mine, they love a good color session. This is such a simple activity to add into your rotation while offering a wonderful opportunity to teach your children about the fifty states. The opportunities are endless here! Color each state that starts with a certain letter a specific color; color some with stripes, polkadots, and hearts; color each state a different color; find the state you call out and color it however they wish. We are all about simple moments to educate while also creating wonderful memories. As they get older, you can use this printable as a means of help memorize the names and locations of the states and add in the capitols, as well. Especially in a homeschool setting where children of a variety of ages are learning in the same room, we love an excuse to gather everyone and work on a project together, while also allowing it to be age-appropriate for each child. America meets education meets quality time. What could be better!

We took the time as we were coloring to discuss how America is a country comprised of fifty states. I asked them about which state we live in and if they remember each of the states they were born in, along with my husband and myself. We read through all the names of the states and explained how each state has its own rules and laws. We vote for the people that represent us in our state. We then went and looked up pictures of our state flag, bird, flower, etc. This was such a fun afternoon craft that turned into a lesson about where they are from and the wonderfully grand country in which they were born.
