Betsy Ross Flag Color-by-Number
We love a fun coloring activity, but even better one that helps teach our nation’s history. This color-by-number flag offers an opportunity to teach our youngest generation about the creation of the American flag during the Revolutionary War. You can discuss with them the need of a flag that represented each of the 13 colonies, for at this point, they only had each individual colony’s flag — not one that represented them all. You can talk about how George Washington commissioned its creation and it is believed that Betsy Ross sewed the first American flag. We have an entire American Flag history lesson for you to download to use to teach your children about the history of the flag. Download below!
As an additional resource, we love the book, Our Flag, that teaches about the history of the American flag. It discusses how its design has changed throughout history. We would recommend the original version of the book if you’re able to get your hands on it. This book is such a great resource!
