Classic Americana Gingerbread
Ever since I can remember, I have had a great love for baking. I was very blessed to have a mother who welcomed me into her kitchen, letting me measure flour and stir as a young child and create great messes as I worked through recipes during my middle and high school years. I have quite the sweet tooth, but am very particular on the quantity I put in my bakes. There’s something so satisfying about a sweet that perfectly soothes a craving. This gingerbread recipe is one that is near and dear to my heart. I have worked on it quite extensively over the years and it is a family favorite during the Christmas season. I adore chewy gingerbread with the ever-so-slight crunch of the outside. I snatch them out of the oven moments before they begin to turn brown to ensure that perfect gooey inside. My favorite thing about this recipe, though, is the fact that they are the best batter for rolling out gingerbread. My kids had the best time this past Christmas rolling out the dough and decorating gingerbread families. Such a simple activity that creates family traditions. Not to mention, I love the opportunity to discuss measurements, fractions, counting, and mathematical skills it requires to bake. So this recipe is my gift to you. I pray this recipe becomes a great opportunity to make a messy kitchen and some wonderful memories. Feel free to download the recipe here. Happy baking!
